PHILOSOPHY The demands placed on a 21st century musician are immense. The skills once thought of as tools of the elite, are now commonplace for all serious professionals. No matter what your forte is, you MUST be able to work efficiently and communicate intelligently. A thorough knowledge of harmony, theory, composition, technique (both instrumental and performance), improvisation, as well as computer based software programs, are essential, and are fuel for the creative process. I graduated with a degree in performance and composition from Berklee School of Music, where I learned, not only the skills, but the hard work ethic that is required in order to sculpt unique abilities. I studied for my masters degree in orchestral composition and electronic music. My studies have deeply influenced my choices in artistic expression, e.g. equipment, style, sound, and the necessity of any composer to be prolific. I teach jazz and classical guitar always with insight into the theory, harmony, composition, improvisational aspects, as pertains to the music style. Before you attend any serious music college you must have already studied much about music. Music is not something that you begin to take an interest in the day you graduate from high school. In order to be competitive during any college audition process, you must already know much about the topics that you will study in more detail over the next 4 or more years. I am a performing artist / composer who loves to teach. My 30 years of experience is your best teacher. Contact: mtlproductions@earthlink.net
